An empirical validation and literature mapping framework · Published: July 2026
This document provides an empirical validation and literature mapping framework for the Mental Wellmate App. The purpose is to connect each visible app feature with established psychological constructs, research literature, and evidence-based mental health principles.
The app includes mood check-ins, body feeling check-ins, breathing exercises, body scan, hydration check, mindful movement, journaling, mindful games, reminders, personal journeys, progress tracking, language selection, login/profile, and contact/support features.
The app should be understood as a digital self-care and psychosocial support tool, not as a medical diagnostic tool or replacement for professional therapy. Mental health apps can support self-monitoring, coping skills, and wellbeing, but their effectiveness, privacy, cultural appropriateness, and safety must be evaluated carefully [11, BMJ Open, 2025], [12, Rickard et al., 2022], [13, Iwaya et al., 2022].
According to the World Health Organization, mental health is a state of wellbeing that helps people cope with life stress, realize their abilities, learn and work well, and contribute to their community [15, World Health Organization, 2025]. This makes the Mental Wellmate App relevant for women's mental health because many women experience stress, social pressure, family responsibilities, isolation, uncertainty, and limited access to professional mental health care.
The Mental Wellmate App can be mapped to a digital mental health self-care model. Its features support emotional awareness, body awareness, stress regulation, self-care habits, reflective writing, physical activity, emotional literacy, and motivation.

Fincham et al. reviewed body scan meditation and found that body scan practice is associated with mindfulness and body awareness, while also noting that the evidence should be interpreted carefully because body scan alone may not be enough for all mental health outcomes [4, Fincham et al., 2022].

A later meta-analysis also found that breathwork may reduce self-reported stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms, although more high-quality research is still needed [5, Fincham et al., 2023].
